The Closet Monster

“Houston! We have a problem! There’s a monster in my closet!”

Gadzooks! The place is a mess and it is all the monster’s doing, I know it.  Monsters love living in closets and under beds, a fact known by everyone from early childhood.  It can be very difficult to get rid of a closet monster, because there are so many places for them to hide.  Closet monsters are notoriously more mischievous than under-the-bed monsters.

Closet monsters like to make messes of closets and they really get a kick out of hiding beloved articles of clothing.  Often when you are missing a piece of clothing, it is because you have a closet monster who has decided to borrow an item for a monster bash get-up.  If your item of clothing turns up again it means you have a nicer closet monster who returned the item after the bash.  As you can imagine monster bashes get quite rowdy, and sometimes an item is damaged, now you know where that mysterious hole in your sweater comes from.

Organizing your closet is a great way to get rid of a closet monster.  They are drawn to messier spaces.  A light you can switch on is helpful as well, but it only scares off the monster short term, because as we all know monsters are afraid of the light.

Have you ever had a closet monster?

This is really a lovely story, but the boy in the drawer causes all kinds of mischief and he always has reminded me of a certain type of closet monster…  My imagination ran wild with this one when I was little, suddenly my dresser drawers were also a source of terror.

This story is more about under the bed monsters, but it’s a good example, under the bed monsters are related to closet monsters.

Excellent explanation of how closets are portal doors for monsters to enter our world.
